Deep Greek for Serious Learners.

University-style learning through live cohorts and immersive tours.

Learn with me.

I’m Michael Manos. I didn’t start learning Greek until I was 18, and now I’m a Greek professor and linguist. My own journey with Greek both inspires and informs my teaching philosophy.

I currently teach Greek through the following two modalities:

(1) Learning Cohorts: I run 3-5 member cohorts through synchronous online courses, modeled after university learning and consisting of 2.5 hours of live instruction per week, as well as homework and exams.

(2) Immersive Tours: On immersive Speaking Greece tours, I travel throughout Greece with my students and encourage rapid progress through a careful combination of experiential and classroom learning.

About Cohorts

Serious learning, together.

  • Beginner cohorts cover the first 2 years of university Modern Greek, whereas Intermediate and Advanced cohorts cover years 3 & 4 of university Greek, respectively.

  • You will receive 2.5 hours of live, small-group instruction with Michael each week. Outside of class hours, you’ll remain engaged with the language through homework assignments, group tasks, and exam prep. Your cohort is your strength - serious learners with a common goal can get a lot done, and have fun along the way.

  • Aside from an internet connection, you’ll also need a notebook and pencil, as well as the textbook assigned for the course. Above all, time and dedication are necessary for learning a language. Those who try to learn through osmosis rather than effort will soon find themselves frustrated with their lack of progress.

About the Tour

Speaking Greece

  • Speaking Greece will bring your knowledge to life. This 10-day program embeds intensive instruction into an immersive environment. Over the course of the tour, you’ll make the leap from language learner to language user.

  • Aside from the fact that I will absolutely refuse to speak to you in English, you’ll also learn through 2-hour daily intensives in the morning, and structured language challenges in the afternoon. You’ll use Greek to talk to me, your fellow students, and the people of Greece.

  • SPF 50? One of those pillow things for the plane? You’re all grown-ups, so the packing is up to you. All I ask is that you bring a little courage so that we can get you out on the street and using everything that we’ve learned together. There is no way I’m going to be the one ordering the food.
